**New Delhi, India** – The inaugural Kho Kho World Cup commenced in New Delhi on Monday with a spectacular opening ceremony at Indira Gandhi Stadium. The event was graced by high-profile dignitaries, including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, and IOA President PT Usha.

Minister Mandaviya expressed his delight at hosting the tournament, highlighting Kho Kho’s rich Indian tradition and its growing global popularity, with over 50 countries now participating. He announced his intention to lobby for Kho Kho’s inclusion in the Asian Games and the 2036 Olympics.

The tournament features 20 men’s teams and 19 women’s teams competing for the coveted title. India, placed in Group A of the men’s competition, will face Nepal in their opening match. The group stage also includes Peru, Brazil, and Bhutan. Other participating nations include South Africa, Ghana, Argentina, Netherlands, Iran, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Republic of Korea, the United States, Poland, England, Germany, Malaysia, Australia, and Kenya. The women’s competition boasts a similarly diverse field of competitors.
