Tue Jan 14 16:10:00 UTC 2025: ## DJI Launches New Entry-Level Drone: The Flip
**San Francisco, CA** – DJI, a leading drone manufacturer, has unveiled its latest offering: the DJI Flip, a user-friendly drone priced at $439. Targeting first-time drone users, the Flip boasts several features designed for ease of use and impressive image quality.
Unlike many drones requiring joystick control, the Flip can be launched and landed from the hand with a single button press. It also offers automated flight modes, including dronies, orbits, and follow-me shots, all controlled directly from the drone itself.
The Flip’s key selling points include its superior camera quality compared to competitors in the same price range. Its 1/1.3-inch 4K60 sensor captures sharp 48-megapixel stills and 2.7K vertical video. A three-axis gimbal ensures stable footage, even in light breezes. While not matching the top-tier DJI cameras, early results are impressive.
The design is unique, folding into a compact form reminiscent of a penny-farthing bicycle. It’s also the first DJI folding drone with fully enclosed propeller guards and an automatic power-on feature upon unfolding. However, it’s noticeably larger than the DJI Mini series and louder than some other DJI drones. The Flip also lacks first-person view (FPV) capabilities, a feature some users may miss.
While a cheaper option, the DJI Neo, exists, the Flip significantly outperforms it in image quality, stability, and battery life (a claimed 31 minutes). However, more expensive DJI drones still offer superior performance. DJI confirms that the Flip is a new series offered alongside its existing Neo and Mini drones to cater to various beginner needs.
The Flip is available for purchase now from DJI’s website, with options for a basic controller ($439) or a premium kit with additional batteries and a higher-end controller ($779).
