Tue Jan 14 17:02:52 UTC 2025: ## City Beautiful Celebrates Lohri with Festive Flair

**Chandigarh, [Date]** – City Beautiful was ablaze with the warmth of Lohri celebrations yesterday, as residents across the city marked the harvest festival with fervor. From Panjab University (PU) and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) to bustling markets and quiet residential areas, the spirit of Lohri filled the air.

At PU, students, faculty, and staff gathered at the Students Centre and Aruna Ranjit Chandra Hall for lively celebrations featuring traditional folk songs, Punjabi music, and the ceremonial lighting of bonfires. The Centre for Women’s Studies and Development organized a unique event themed “Promises and Action for Attaining Gender Equality,” incorporating gender-sensitive renditions of traditional songs and boliyan (folk verses) advocating for women’s empowerment. Students actively participated, reciting innovative boliyan addressing gender-based inequalities.

PGIMER’s Rotary Sarai spread festive cheer by distributing blankets to underprivileged individuals in collaboration with Infosys, with hospital staff, faculty, patients, and Medical Superintendent Vipin Koushal participating.

Throughout the city, the joyous atmosphere was palpable. The crackling of bonfires, the rhythmic beats of dhol drums, and the aroma of festive sweets like rewari, gachak, and til laddoos filled the streets. Families and friends exchanged treats, while shopkeepers hosted community gatherings. Many residents adorned themselves in vibrant traditional attire, adding a splash of color to the celebrations. The evening was particularly special for newlyweds celebrating their first Lohri and families welcoming children born in the past year, who marked their first Lohri with elaborate festivities.
