**Mumbai, India** – Following a disappointing 2024-25 Test cricket campaign, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is implementing stricter rules for players and support staff. According to reports in Dainik Jagran, the BCCI believes extended family stays on tour negatively impact player performance. To address this, the board will limit family visits to a maximum of two weeks during 45-day tours, reversing a policy relaxed before 2019. This means wives of players, like Anushka Sharma (wife of Virat Kohli), will no longer be able to accompany their husbands for the entirety of long tours.
Further changes include mandatory team bus travel for all players, discouraging individual transport. The BCCI will also limit the baggage allowance to 150kg per player, with players responsible for excess baggage fees.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir and his manager, Gaurav Arora, will also face restrictions. Arora will be barred from the team hotel, VIP boxes, and team transportation.
These new rules were reportedly discussed in a meeting between India’s Test & ODI captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gambhir, selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar, and top BCCI officials, including the newly appointed secretary and treasurer. The meeting also addressed the future of veteran players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, and the potential three-year term limits for support staff, with the BCCI citing plateaued performance due to long tenures.
