**NEW DELHI, January 13, 2025** – Despite Lohri celebrations in northern states today, all banks across India will remain open for business, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). While Lohri is a regional holiday in states like Punjab and Haryana, it is not listed as a bank holiday on the RBI’s calendar.
However, a bank holiday is scheduled for January 14th in observance of Makar Sankranti, a harvest festival celebrated across various parts of India. Several major cities, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad, will see banks closed on that day. The holiday also coincides with other regional festivals such as Pongal and Magh Bihu.
The RBI’s January 2025 holiday calendar, released earlier, lists a total of 13 bank holidays for the month, including weekends. Citizens are advised to contact their respective bank branches or customer service lines for confirmation before visiting, especially given the overlapping regional celebrations.
