Tue Jan 14 07:04:25 UTC 2025: ## Naga Sadhus Participate in First Shahi Snan of Maha Kumbh 2025

**Prayagraj, India –** The Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, commenced its first major ritual bath, known as “Amrit Snan,” on January 14th, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. Thousands of Naga sadhus from various akharas (religious orders) participated in the sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam confluence.

Leading the processions were prominent figures such as Acharya Mandleswar Balkanand ji Maharaj and Surendra Giri ji Maharaj from the Anand Akhara, and Swami Kailashanand Giri from the Niranjani Akhara. The Niranjani Akhara, renowned for its emphasis on yoga, meditation, and spiritual knowledge, and the Anand Akhara, dedicated to the Sun God Suryanarayana and known for its educational institutions, were among the many akharas participating.

A total of 13 akharas, representing the Sanatan Dharma, took part in the holy dip, divided into three groups based on their affiliations: Shaivite, Vaishnavite, and Udaseen. Kumar Swami Ji Maharaj from the Anand Akhara expressed profound joy at participating in the Maha Kumbh, highlighting its unique atmosphere of peace and unity in contrast to the conflicts prevalent in the world. He urged everyone to experience the spiritual significance of the event.

The Maha Kumbh 2025, a Poorna Kumbh, will continue until February 26th, featuring several more key “Shahi Snans” (royal baths) on January 29th (Mauni Amavasya), February 3rd (Basant Panchami), and February 12th (Maghi Purnima), culminating in Maha Shivaratri on February 26th. The event, held every 12 years at one of four locations in India, is expected to draw millions of pilgrims throughout its duration.
