Mon Jan 13 17:11:09 UTC 2025: ## Puducherry Reports Second HMPV Case, Health Ministry Assures Public
**Puducherry, January 14, 2025** – A five-year-old girl in Puducherry has become the second confirmed case of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) infection in the union territory. The child, admitted to Jipmer with fever, cough, and a runny nose, tested positive for the virus but is reportedly recovering well, according to a Puducherry Health Department release.
This follows a previous case involving a three-year-old girl who also tested positive for HMPV at a private hospital and was discharged after a few days.
In response to the confirmed cases, the Union Ministry of Health has issued a statement reassuring the public that HMPV is a common virus that rarely causes serious complications. The ministry urged citizens not to panic. The Puducherry Health Department echoed this sentiment in earlier releases, emphasizing that HMPV has been present for a considerable time and poses no significant cause for alarm.
