**Pathanamthitta, Kerala –** Kerala police have arrested 44 individuals in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a Dalit girl, with two additional suspects currently at large overseas. The shocking case came to light after the victim, now 18, disclosed during counseling that she had been abused by 62 people since the age of 13.

A special investigation team (SIT) comprising over 30 officers is investigating the case, which has resulted in 30 FIRs being registered. DIG S Ajeetha Begum stated that while 59 individuals are named as accused, 44 are currently under arrest. Authorities are pursuing the remaining 13 suspects and are planning to issue Look Out Circulars and Interpol Red Corner notices for the two overseas fugitives.

The investigation has revealed that several of the assaults occurred at various locations in Pathanamthitta, including a private bus stand, a rubber plantation in Ranni, and even inside a car and at Pathanamthitta General Hospital. The police investigation indicates at least five instances of gang-rape. The initial incident involved a youth the victim met on Instagram taking her to a rubber plantation, where she was raped with three other individuals.

The case initially came to light when the victim’s teachers noted behavioral changes and reported them to the Child Welfare Committee, who subsequently notified the police. Once the Sabarimala pilgrimage season concludes, the SIT plans to expand its team. Police have vowed a thorough and scientific investigation, promising to bring all 59 accused to justice.
