**Jaipur, Rajasthan –** A 75-year-old retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer was allegedly assaulted by a bus conductor in Jaipur after a dispute over a Rs 10 fare, police confirmed on Sunday. The incident, captured on a now-viral video, occurred Friday when the victim, RL Meena, missed his designated bus stop.
According to Kanota Station House Officer (SHO) Uday Singh, the conductor, identified as Ghanshyam Sharma, failed to inform Mr. Meena that he had missed his stop at the Kanota bus stand on Agra Road. The bus continued to the next stop at Nayla, prompting the conductor to demand an additional Rs 10 fare.
Mr. Meena refused to pay the extra fare, leading to an argument that escalated into violence. The video shows the conductor repeatedly assaulting the retired bureaucrat while other passengers watched. Mr. Meena eventually disembarked the bus.
A complaint was filed by Mr. Meena at the Kanota police station on Saturday, leading to the registration of a case against Sharma. A detailed investigation is underway. Sources indicate that Jaipur City Transport Services Limited has suspended Sharma pending the outcome of the investigation. The incident has sparked public outrage, highlighting concerns about passenger safety and the conduct of public transport staff.
