**TIRUPATTUR, Tamil Nadu – January 13, 2025** – Ten peafowl were found dead on a farmland in Bethur village near Alangayam, Tamil Nadu, on Sunday after consuming poisoned grain intended for rats. This incident follows the recent arrest of two individuals near Arani for poisoning six peafowl.
Forest officials responded to reports of the dead birds and a post-mortem confirmed poisoning as the cause of death. The peafowl, attracted to farmlands near forest areas, ingested poisoned grains spread to control rats. The landlord, K. Sudhakar, and local farmers cultivating millets and groundnuts on his land are suspected of being responsible. However, due to Pongal holidays, they were not immediately found and special teams have been formed to apprehend them.
Cases have been registered under the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and an investigation is underway.
