Sun Jan 12 17:14:37 UTC 2025: ## Interpol’s “Silver Notice” for Asset Recovery: Modi’s 2015 Vision Takes Shape

**New Delhi, Jan 13, 2025** – India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has hailed Interpol’s new “Silver Notice” as a significant advancement in tracing illicit assets stashed abroad. CBI Director Praveen Sood revealed that the initiative, designed to locate laundered money across borders, originated from a 2015 proposal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Silver Notice, the newest addition to Interpol’s colour-coded notice system, is considered a more efficient tool than traditional Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties (MLATs) for gathering such information. MLATs, requiring bilateral agreements between countries, often face delays and bureaucratic hurdles. India currently has MLATs with 45 countries.

Sood stated that the Silver Notice, adopted as a resolution at the 2022 Interpol General Assembly in India, offers increased stature and acceptance among member countries compared to MLATs. While acknowledging that MLATs will remain useful for simpler cases, he highlighted the Silver Notice’s wider reach and real-time information sharing capabilities.

The process leverages India’s Bharatpol system, allowing seamless information requests through the CBI, which serves as India’s National Central Bureau for Interpol. A pilot phase of the Silver Notice, involving 52 countries and territories, launched on Friday and will continue until at least November 2025. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance international cooperation in asset recovery and combatting financial crime, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s long-standing commitment to tackling corruption and terrorism.
