Sun Jan 12 20:32:15 UTC 2025: ## Tripura Opposition Leader Condemns New State Emblem Design

**Agartala, January 13, 2025** – The Leader of the Opposition in the Tripura Assembly, Jitendra Chaudhury, has criticized the newly approved state emblem, calling it unrepresentative of Tripura’s “nature, culture, and landscape.” The emblem, approved by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on January 9th and hailed as a “significant milestone” by Chief Minister Manik Saha, features the national emblem at the center of an outline of the state map within a saffron circle.

Mr. Chaudhury, of the CPI(M), claims there is internal dissent within the ruling BJP regarding the design and demanded the government reconsider, opting for a design that better reflects the state’s uniqueness. He suggested the current emblem, with its saffron coloring, was intentionally designed to be controversial, though he stated his opposition wasn’t to the color itself. The CPI(M) state secretary echoed these concerns, stating the emblem has indeed “triggered controversy.” The opposition’s call is for the government to “respect public sentiment” and adopt a more appropriate design.
