Sun Jan 12 17:20:47 UTC 2025: ## Kasaragod Embraces Eco-Friendly Road Renovation
**KASARAGOD, KERALA – January 13, 2025** – Eight major roads in Kasaragod district are undergoing a significant transformation using eco-friendly German Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) technology. This innovative approach repurposes existing road materials, minimizing environmental impact and resource consumption.
The ₹3.5 crore project, spearheaded under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), prioritizes sustainable development. The Chaiyom-Kanhirapoil road, a four-kilometer stretch, is the first to be revamped using this method. Existing road surfaces are excavated to a depth of 30 cm, treated with stabilizing compounds like cement and lime, and reinforced for seven days before receiving a bituminous tar layer. This process creates durable, low-maintenance roads.
The project, jointly funded by the state (40%) and central (60%) governments, is expected to be completed within four months. Other roads scheduled for renovation include Cheruvathur-Valiyapoyil, Maniyampara-Deradukka Shiriya-Koodadukka, Miyapadavu-Daigoli-Poyyath Vayal-Nandarapadavu, Athrukuzhi-Nellikatte-Puttipallam-Edneer, Paika-Neerolipara, and Karakode-Parakkakkai. Officials expect the improved roads to significantly benefit the public.
