**Mumbai, India** – The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season will now begin on March 21st, a week later than initially planned, according to Cricbuzz. The tournament, which will conclude on May 25th, will see both the opening and final matches held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, home to the reigning champions, Kolkata Knight Riders.

Conflicting reports surround the reason for the schedule change. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) initially communicated a March 14th start date to franchises, sources now suggest this was a tentative window. Speculation points to a request from broadcasters to delay the start in consideration of the Champions Trophy final on March 9th, a claim denied by broadcasting sources.

The BCCI’s recent election of Devjit Saikia as secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as treasurer is expected to pave the way for the official release of the full schedule in the coming days. Meanwhile, BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla announced that the Champions Trophy squad will be unveiled on January 17th or 18th, and the venues for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will be announced shortly.
