**New Delhi, January 13, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch “Mission Mausam” on Tuesday, January 14th, as part of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) 150th-anniversary celebrations. The initiative aims to transform India into a “weather-ready” and “climate-smart” nation.
The launch will coincide with the release of the IMD Vision-2047 document, outlining strategies for weather forecasting, management, and climate change mitigation. Mission Mausam will leverage advanced technologies, including high-resolution atmospheric observations, next-generation radars and satellites, and high-performance computing, to improve weather surveillance and understanding of climate processes. The mission will also focus on providing crucial air quality data for better weather management.
A series of events and workshops are planned to mark the IMD’s 150th foundation day, highlighting the department’s achievements and its role in building India’s climate resilience.
