**Chennai, January 12, 2025** – The Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) campus buzzed with activity this weekend as Saarang 2025, presented by The Hindu, concluded its vibrant cultural festival. The event featured a diverse range of performances, exhibitions, and lectures, attracting students and visitors alike.
Italian metal band Noveria headlined the festival, captivating the audience with their energetic performance. Meanwhile, smaller stages hosted a variety of musicians, and playback singer K.S. Chitra delivered a well-received lecture. Carnatic music enthusiast and first-year student Nihal K. praised a particularly insightful lecture by musician Lydian Nadhaswaram, who emphasized the importance of connecting with musical roots.
Beyond the music, Saarang 2025 offered a unique exhibition showcasing over 110 musical instruments from around the world, collected by Babu Susan over a decade. This exhibition, part of the festival’s “Meraki Acts” initiative focused on promoting lesser-known artists, also included a shadow puppet show.
Student organizers highlighted the festival’s commitment to maintaining a balance between excitement and responsible event management. Dean of Students Sathyanarayana N. Gummadi confirmed that noise levels were consistently monitored to remain within permissible limits, and air quality was also checked. The “Festival Street,” a popular area with numerous stalls, provided a lively atmosphere throughout the event.
Saarang 2025 showcased a successful blend of established and emerging artists, diverse musical genres, and a commitment to responsible event management, leaving a lasting impression on the IIT-M campus.
