Mon Jan 13 05:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Cold Snap Continues, Mountain Snow Possible, More Arctic Air on the Way

**ROANOKE, VA (WDBJ7) -** A frigid night is in store for Southwest Virginia, with temperatures plummeting into the teens and twenties under clear skies. While a warming trend is expected Monday, with highs in the 30s and 40s west of the Blue Ridge and upper 40s to low 50s east, a returning cold front will bring breezy conditions and wind chills in the 30s and 40s. A few mountain snow showers are possible Monday, with flurries potentially reaching the valleys.

Tuesday will see a second cold front, bringing increased chances of accumulating mountain snow, particularly along and southwest of I-77 and in the Alleghany Highlands and Greenbrier Valley. Specific snowfall amounts are available in the full forecast.

Following a brief reprieve, another blast of arctic air will sweep the region Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing dangerously cold wind chills. The forecast shows significant wind chills for both Wednesday and Thursday mornings (specific numbers are available in the full forecast).

January 2024 has been exceptionally cold, ranking among the top ten coldest Januarys on record for the Roanoke Valley and other areas. More cold weather is expected later this week, with several potential surges of frigid air from Canada in the coming weeks. While no specific storms are predicted immediately, the potential for wintry weather remains high due to the ongoing cold air pattern, making the latter half of the month a higher-than-normal risk for snow and ice.
