Sun Jan 12 20:02:56 UTC 2025: **BCCI Appoints New Secretary and Treasurer Following Leadership Changes**
MUMBAI, January 12, 2025 – Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh have assumed their new roles as secretary and treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), respectively. The positions became vacant in December following Jay Shah’s appointment as chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Ashish Shelar’s entry into the Maharashtra government.
Saikia, previously the BCCI’s joint secretary, was elected unopposed. He stated his intention to build upon Shah’s five-year tenure, emphasizing collaboration with the apex council members to maintain the BCCI’s success. Saikia, a former first-class cricketer and currently Assam’s advocate general, will represent the BCCI at the ICC. The BCCI has yet to decide whether to hold an election to fill the joint secretary vacancy.
Saikia also revealed discussions held with captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir regarding the recent Australia series loss. A roadmap for future success, including the upcoming England series and Champions Trophy, has been developed, incorporating expert opinions. The final team selection for the Champions Trophy, initially scheduled for January 12th, will be delayed to allow consideration of performances in ongoing domestic matches. The Indian team’s departure for Dubai is expected around February 14th-15th, with their Champions Trophy campaign starting against Bangladesh on February 20th.
