Mon Jan 13 06:29:53 UTC 2025: ## BCCI Elects New Secretary and Treasurer in Uncontested Vote

**Mumbai, January 12, 2025** – Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were formally appointed as the new secretary and treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) respectively, during a brief 10-minute Special General Meeting (SGM) today. Their election was uncontested, following the resignations of Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar.

Shah stepped down after assuming the chairmanship of the International Cricket Council (ICC), while Shelar’s resignation was necessitated by his recent appointment as a Maharashtra cabinet minister.

Saikia, formerly the joint-secretary and a former Ranji Trophy player for Assam, has been instrumental in developing the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. His close relationship with Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, is well-known. He faces the challenge of navigating India’s men’s team transition in Test and ODI cricket.

Bhatia, a young entrepreneur with a family background in the liquor business, brings prior experience as a BCCI councillor and benefits from the expertise of his father, Baldev Singh, who played a key role in Chhattisgarh’s acquisition of full BCCI membership.

The BCCI will now hold an election for the joint-secretary position within the next 45 days, with Mumbai Cricket Association vice-president Sanjay Naik considered a leading contender.
