Sun Jan 12 08:42:00 UTC 2025: ## 28 Workers Rescued After Railway Station Building Collapse in Kannauj; No Fatalities

**Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, India –** A 16-hour rescue operation concluded Sunday morning at Kannauj Railway Station following the collapse of an under-construction building Saturday afternoon. All 28 workers trapped in the debris were successfully rescued and admitted to a hospital, officials confirmed. No fatalities were reported.

The collapse occurred when the shuttering of the building, part of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) project to upgrade the station, gave way. CCTV footage appears to show a worker accidentally triggering the collapse while working on a supporting beam.

Rescue teams, including personnel from the National and State Disaster Response Force and the railways, worked through the night to clear the debris and extract the trapped workers. District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukl expressed relief at the lack of fatalities.

The North Eastern Railway (NER) has launched a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the incident. The NER has also announced ex gratia payments for the injured workers, ranging from Rs 50,000 for minor injuries to Rs 2.5 lakh for serious injuries.
