MUMBAI, INDIA – Devjit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were unanimously elected as the new secretary and treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday. The elections, held during a special general meeting (SGM) in Mumbai, followed the resignations of Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar. Saikia and Bhatia were the only candidates nominated for the positions.
Shah stepped down as secretary after becoming the ICC chairman last month, while Shelar resigned as treasurer upon assuming his role as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government. Saikia, from Assam, had been serving as the acting secretary since Shah’s appointment to the ICC, while Bhatia hails from Chhattisgarh.
Election Officer A.K. Joti announced the unopposed election, stating that no voting was necessary. The SGM also included a tribute to Shah, who was honored by the BCCI on Saturday. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla confirmed that the SGM’s sole agenda was the election of the secretary and treasurer, and no other matters were discussed. Shukla also provided an update on the Women’s Premier League (WPL), stating that venues have nearly been finalized and will be announced soon.
