Sun Jan 12 04:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Governor Approves New Land Records Act, Replacing Controversial 2020 Legislation

**Hyderabad, January 9, 2025** – Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has approved the Telangana Bhu Bharati (Record of Rights) Act, a significant move replacing the 2020 Act introduced by the previous government. The new legislation aims to address widespread land-related grievances faced by farmers and landowners.

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced the government’s commitment to swift implementation, promising to finalize the necessary rules within two months. The 2020 Act, according to the Minister, lacked a grievance redressal mechanism and appeal process, causing significant hardship.

The Congress government, recognizing these issues, established an expert committee that recommended its repeal. The committee consulted with stakeholders and created a draft of the new Act, which was publicly available for feedback – a unique approach to legislative drafting.

Minister Reddy highlighted the previous government’s failure to establish rules for the 2020 Act despite its four-year existence, resulting in widespread land disputes across the state. He attributed these problems to the previous administration’s focus on “selfish interests” rather than the needs of the people.

The new Act intends to provide permanent solutions to land-related problems. The government is also working to strengthen revenue administration at the village level, with the recruitment of village-level officers nearing completion. This initiative aims to ensure that revenue services are accessible to all citizens, particularly in rural areas.
