**New Orleans, LA** – New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) released body camera footage on Friday showing the fatal shooting of Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the perpetrator of a deadly New Year’s Day truck attack that killed 15 and injured dozens more. The video depicts the chaotic moments after Jabbar, driving a white F-150 truck, plowed into a crowd celebrating on Bourbon Street.

The footage shows Jabbar firing at officers from inside his crashed vehicle before police returned fire, killing him. NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick lauded the officers involved, calling them “national heroes” for their actions in neutralizing the immediate threat.

According to Sgt. Mike Guasco of the Public Integrity Bureau’s Force Investigation Team, Officer Christian Beyer ordered Jabbar to exit the truck before Jabbar fired at close range. Officers, including Beyer, Jacobie Jordan, Luis Robles, and Sgt. Nigel Daggs, then returned fire, fatally wounding Jabbar. Two officers sustained injuries during the exchange.

Kirkpatrick stated that the officers acted within established protocols and legal boundaries, emphasizing the split-second decisions required in such situations. The FBI is investigating Jabbar’s motives, which are believed to be connected to his reported inspiration by ISIS. The investigation also involves Jabbar’s travels to Cairo and Canada, as well as his use of Meta smart glasses to record his planning and scouting of the French Quarter months before the attack. The FBI has confirmed that Jabbar acted alone and that the attack was premeditated. Undetonated explosives were found near the scene.

The released bodycam footage, while described as disturbing, is intended to provide transparency into the incident. The NOPD maintains that the officers’ actions were justified.
