**New Delhi, January 12, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its second list of 29 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections on February 5th. The list includes notable figures like Kapil Mishra, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA, who will contest from Karawal Nagar, replacing the incumbent. The party also fielded Harish Khurana from Moti Nagar, adding to the number of sons of former Delhi Chief Ministers contesting the election. This follows the earlier nomination of Parvesh Sahib Singh (son of Sahib Singh Verma) and the Congress’ fielding of Sandeep Dikshit (son of Sheila Dikshit).
With this second list, the BJP has now declared candidates for 58 of the 70 seats. Five women candidates are included in this latest announcement, bringing the total number of female BJP candidates to seven. The list also features a mix of sitting MLAs, former MLAs, and MCD councillors, including some who have previously contested and lost elections. The party has replaced only two of its seven sitting MLAs.
The BJP’s strategy aims to break a 26-year drought in power in Delhi, after winning only three and eight seats in the 2015 and 2020 elections respectively. Their main rivals, the AAP, have already announced candidates for all seats, while the Congress has declared 48 so far. The votes will be counted on February 8th.
