Sun Jan 12 04:13:27 UTC 2025: ## India’s Cricket Captains Face Scrutiny After Series Losses

**New Delhi, January 11, 2025** – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to hold a crucial meeting to address the underperformance of the Indian cricket team in recent series against New Zealand and Australia. The upcoming meeting will involve head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and BCCI officials. The primary focus will be on the batting failures of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, India’s top run-scorers in the ICC World Test Championship.

Kohli and Rohit have faced intense criticism following their poor form. Rohit has managed a meager 122 runs in his last six Tests, including a paltry 31 runs in five innings against Australia. Kohli, while scoring a century in Perth, has also struggled, registering eight similar dismissals throughout the Australian tour, raising concerns about his technique. He scored 283 runs in his last eight Tests.

The BCCI will discuss whether to make immediate changes to the team composition ahead of the Champions Trophy or wait until the end of the current World Test Championship cycle. While both batsmen are expected to feature in the Champions Trophy, their limited ODI appearances in 2024 will make evaluating their 50-over future challenging.

Their performances in the recent series against Sri Lanka offered mixed results. Kohli scored 24, 14, and 20 runs in Colombo, while Rohit scored 58, 64, and 35. The upcoming five-match Test series against England will serve as a crucial test for both players’ long-term prospects in Test cricket. Gambhir’s assessment of their commitment to the longer format will also be a key consideration for selectors. The meeting will also evaluate the performance of Gambhir’s coaching staff.
