Sat Jan 11 09:16:45 UTC 2025: ## Kohli and Rohit’s Future in Question as BCCI Reviews Australia Tour Debacle

**New Delhi, India** – The future of Indian cricket stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be a key topic of discussion at a crucial BCCI meeting on Saturday. The meeting, involving head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, will review India’s recent disappointing performances against New Zealand and Australia. Kohli and Rohit’s diminishing returns with the bat have put their places in the team under intense scrutiny.

The meeting will address whether to begin a transition away from the senior players starting with next month’s Champions Trophy, or to wait until after the ICC World Cup. While both Kohli and Rohit are likely to be given another opportunity in the Champions Trophy – a format in which they’ve historically excelled – their recent performances, particularly in the Test series against Australia, are a major concern. Kohli scored 190 runs at an average of 23.75 in the Australian series, while Rohit managed just 31 runs at 6.2. Their performances in the recent Sri Lanka series were also mixed.

The BCCI will also assess the performance of the Gambhir-led coaching staff and their plans for managing the transition of the team.

Beyond the future of Kohli and Rohit, the meeting will also finalize the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy, set to begin on February 20th in the UAE. The fitness of key pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami will be closely monitored. Shami’s recent performances in domestic cricket suggest a strong possibility of his return, while Bumrah’s recovery from back spasms remains uncertain. The selectors will also consider the inclusion of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has impressed in recent Tests and T20Is.

Additionally, the selectors will name the squad for the upcoming home series against England, encompassing five T20Is and three ODIs starting January 22nd. While the T20I squad is expected to be similar to the one that played in South Africa, Shami’s inclusion in the ODI squad hinges on his fitness assessment. Bumrah and Akash Deep will miss the white-ball series due to injury. Jaiswal, along with Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy, are strong contenders for selection.
