**NEW DELHI** – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially nominated Saurabh Bhardwaj as its candidate for the Greater Kailash constituency in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 2025. Bhardwaj, a three-time MLA and current Delhi minister, holds key portfolios including health, urban development, water, and industries.
Bhardwaj, a Delhi native and computer science engineer with a law degree from Osmania University, first entered politics in 2013, winning the Greater Kailash seat. His political career has included various ministerial roles, though he was not a cabinet minister during Arvind Kejriwal’s first full term. He’s also been a prominent AAP spokesperson, famously using a prototype Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the Delhi Assembly in 2017 to demonstrate potential vulnerabilities, claims that were later refuted by the Election Commission.
His 2020 re-election saw a significant victory over BJP’s Shikha Roy. He was appointed a minister in March 2023 following Satyendar Jain’s resignation. Recently, Bhardwaj was named in an FIR filed in October 2024 related to a dispute over the reinstatement of bus marshals, a complaint lodged by the Leader of Opposition, Vijender Gupta.
The AAP’s choice of Bhardwaj signals a strong contender for the Greater Kailash seat in what promises to be a closely contested election.
