Fri Jan 10 23:20:00 UTC 2025: ## New Bypass Opens, Speeds Up Travel to Coastal Andhra for Sankranti

**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh:** Travelers heading to coastal Andhra Pradesh from Hyderabad for Sankranti celebrations will experience significantly reduced travel times. A newly constructed 30-km bypass near Vijayawada, connecting Golllapudy and Chinna Avutpally, is now partially open, diverting traffic away from the congested city center.

Previously, vehicles traveling from Hyderabad to places like Eluru, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, and Visakhapatnam had to navigate through Vijayawada, causing delays of up to 2-3 hours during peak traffic. The new six-lane bypass, whose construction began in 2020, is now over 90% complete. While minor issues with low-hanging power lines remain, authorities have deemed the bypass safe enough for two-way traffic starting Friday, just in time for the Sankranti rush.

Travel time through the bypass is expected to be under an hour. Authorities are working to fully open the bypass soon. This initiative promises to significantly alleviate traffic congestion and provide a smoother journey for travelers during the busy Sankranti festival.
