Sat Jan 11 15:51:50 UTC 2025: ## Uttara Kannada Police Shoot Two Suspects in Leg During Ransom Money Chase
**Hubballi, January 11, 2025** – Two suspects were shot in the leg by Uttara Kannada police during a high-speed chase early Saturday morning. The suspects, along with three others, were attempting to flee with ransom money after kidnapping and assaulting police officers.
The incident unfolded at 4 a.m. when Yellapur police pursued a gang involved in the kidnapping of Mundgod-based businessman Zameer Ahmed Dargahwale. Dargahwale, a former gambler with a criminal record, was abducted on January 9th with a ransom demand of ₹30 lakh. He was released on Friday after ₹18 lakh was paid.
Police tracked the suspects from Khalghatgi to Dauginal Village near Yellapur, where a car chase ensued. The suspects rammed their vehicle into a tree and attacked pursuing officers with sharp weapons and chili powder, injuring three policemen including a police inspector. After warning shots failed to stop them, police fired upon two suspects, injuring them in the legs.
The injured suspects, identified as Rahim Jafar Saab (27) and Ajay Fakirappa Madli (25), are receiving treatment at the Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences. The three other arrested suspects are Sagar Kalal, Dadapeer Allabaksh, and Hassan Moinuddin Khilledar from Dharwad. The injured police officers received treatment in Yellapur.
According to Uttar Kannada Superintendent of Police Narayan, the gang, led by Rahim, planned the kidnapping on December 3rd. Police investigations reveal Dargahwale’s history of criminal activity, including associations with released convicts. He had recently amassed significant wealth through business ventures.
