Sat Jan 11 00:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Historic Will Rogers Ranch House Destroyed in Devastating Palisades Fire

**PACIFIC PALISADES, CA (January 8, 2025)** – The historic Will Rogers State Historic Park was ravaged by the Palisades Fire, which tore through Southern California overnight, destroying the iconic ranch house and other structures. The blaze, fueled by 80 mph wind gusts, also inflicted significant damage on Topanga State Park, including the historic Topanga Ranch Motel.

California State Parks Director Armando Quintero confirmed the devastating losses, expressing sorrow for the impact on both natural and cultural resources. While a full assessment is pending, the ranch house, stables, and numerous other buildings at Will Rogers State Historic Park have been confirmed as destroyed. Park officials successfully evacuated horses and some historical artifacts before the flames reached the property.

The Topanga Ranch Motel, a 30-room bungalow dating back to 1929 and once owned by William Randolph Hearst, also suffered extensive fire damage. The motel, a popular filming location and affordable seaside getaway, was slated for restoration before the fire.

Both parks were closed as a precaution on January 7th, shortly after the fire ignited. The swift spread of the fire overwhelmed efforts to completely protect the properties despite the rapid response.

State Parks is collaborating with first responders to battle the ongoing Palisades Fire and is directing all available resources towards assessing the damage and securing remaining assets.
