Fri Jan 10 17:52:05 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Seeks Central Help to Speed Up Waqf Land Reclaiming
**Hyderabad, January 11, 2025** – The Telangana State Waqf Board (TGSWB) is urging the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA) for assistance in streamlining the process of removing encroachments on waqf properties. In a recent meeting, TGSWB officials highlighted the slow pace of encroachment removal, citing the lengthy procedure involving show-cause notices, inquiries, and Waqf Tribunal intervention. The process, currently reliant on Section 54 of the Waqf Act, involves multiple agencies including revenue authorities.
A further complication arises from the sale of encroached land, resulting in the need to cancel numerous fraudulent sale deeds. These sales often occur after encroachment, adding another layer of complexity to the reclamation process.
The TGSWB intends to submit a detailed proposal to the MoMA in the coming days, outlining the challenges and requesting central support to expedite the recovery of waqf lands and properties. The MoMA’s Secretary, Chandra Shekhar Kumar, met with Telangana officials, including the Secretary of the Minorities Welfare Department, Tafseer Iqubal, and TGSWB CEO Mohammed Asadullah, to discuss these issues.
