VIJAYAWADA, January 10, 2025 – Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Satya Kumar Yadav, has announced plans to recruit 7,000 to 8,000 healthcare workers to address critical staffing shortages. The move follows a review meeting revealing a 25.97% vacancy rate across the department, totaling 26,263 unfilled positions out of 101,125 sanctioned posts.

Minister Yadav criticized the previous government’s claim of “zero vacancies,” stating that the shortage is particularly acute in government hospitals, with teaching hospitals facing a 37.04% shortfall and Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and Unani hospitals experiencing a staggering 63.40% vacancy rate. He expressed concern over the neglect of traditional medicine systems under the previous administration.

The Minister emphasized the need for accountability and improved service quality, stating that the “honeymoon period” for the new government is over. He instructed officials to develop an action plan for immediate recruitment, prioritizing based on urgent needs. The plan will include filling vacancies through both direct recruitment and promotions.
