**Guwahati, January 11, 2025** – Abhishek Kar, a YouTuber who identifies as a “trader, investor, and mentor,” has issued a public apology after facing severe criticism for making derogatory comments about Assam’s history and traditions. His remarks, made in a video on the Riya Upreti YouTube channel, sparked outrage, leading to a police investigation and a formal apology from Kar himself.
The Assam Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) condemned Kar’s comments on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), calling them “unacceptable” and requesting police action. Responding swiftly, Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh confirmed that a case had been filed against Kar, and an investigation was underway. Additional DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged, adding that the investigation had commenced.
In the offending video, Kar made several unsubstantiated claims, including one about a village in Assam where women allegedly possess tantric powers to transform people into goats and back. Following the public outcry, Kar took to X to apologize, stating that his intention was not to cause offense and pledging to be more careful in verifying information before sharing it publicly.
