**VELLORE, January 11, 2025** – Members of the All India Insurance Pensioners’ Association staged a demonstration in Vellore on Friday, demanding improved benefits from the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC). Led by association secretary V. Sugumaran, the protesters highlighted several key demands, including the reinstatement of the old pension scheme and a higher ex gratia payment for 1986 retirees.
Additional demands included preventing further increases in foreign direct investment in the insurance sector beyond 74%, a uniform 30% increase in family pensions for public sector general insurance pensioners, a uniform dearness allowance for all pensioners, improvements to the medical claim scheme, and ex gratia payments for all pensioners. The protesters also called for a cash medical benefit for domiciliary treatment and preventive health check-ups, along with a universal pension scheme.
The association plans to submit a memorandum outlining these demands to LIC’s CEO and Managing Director shortly.
