**Puducherry, January 11, 2025** – A child hospitalized in a private Puducherry hospital with Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) has made a full recovery and been discharged, the Health Department announced Saturday. The department emphasized that the viral spread is not cause for alarm and urged the public not to panic.
Following the child’s diagnosis, health officials provided precautionary advice to the parents. All suspected cases are being tested according to standard protocols at Jipmer, with plans underway to expand testing to the Government Medical College as well.
To prepare for potential increases in cases, the Health Department has designated special wards for elderly patients at the Chest Clinic, Gorimedu, and for children at the Rajiv Gandhi Women and Child Hospital. Furthermore, the department is actively using social media to raise public awareness about HMPV and its prevention.
