**Bengaluru, January 11, 2025** – A new book, *BANGALOREAN*, offers a multifaceted portrait of Bengaluru, showcasing the city’s blend of ancient traditions and modern dynamism. Authored by Melissa Parkerton and Farrah Gillani, with photography by Katya Antoni and Chris Page, and spearheaded by social anthropologist Kaveri Sinhji and designer Tania Singh Khosla, the 340-page volume features over 80 individuals from diverse backgrounds.
From tech entrepreneurs like Narayana Murthy and Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw to auto-rickshaw drivers and artisans, the book presents a range of perspectives on the city’s evolving identity. The project, initially envisioned as a purely anthropological study, transformed after a chance encounter with photographer Antoni, whose evocative images integrated the project’s vision.
The authors conducted extensive research, posing unique questions to elicit untold stories. Murthy, for example, shared a previously unpublished 12-point plan for Bengaluru’s future. The book also explores the vulnerabilities and personal reflections of its subjects, highlighting the honesty and emotional depth of the interviews. Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, candidly shared his insecurities and ambitions.
*BANGALOREAN* is more than just a collection of profiles; it’s a reflection on Bengaluru’s historical legacy as a center of learning and its transformation into India’s Silicon Valley, while still retaining its appeal as a retirement haven. The book’s creators hope it will spark reflection on the city’s evolving identity and the experiences of its diverse inhabitants. The book is available for purchase at bookbangalorean.com.
