Sat Jan 11 13:56:22 UTC 2025: ## Sabarimala Gears Up for Makarajyothi with Tight Security and Crowd Control Measures

**Pathanamthitta, Kerala, January 11, 2025** – Extensive security and crowd management measures are in place for the Makarajyothi festival at Sabarimala, expected to draw massive crowds of devotees. Authorities have implemented strict limits on the number of pilgrims allowed at various viewpoints to ensure safety.

Pathanamthitta District Collector S. Premkrishnan announced capacity limits ranging from 300 at Attathode West to 8,000 at the Pampa Hilltop, the largest viewing area. Access to the Ayyanmala viewpoint has been prohibited. Each location will have medical support, including a strengthened medical response team with 37 ambulances and 17 emergency medical centers along the pilgrim routes. A control room will operate for 72 hours to coordinate health services (0468-2222642 and 0468-2228220).

Security will be bolstered by 5,000 police personnel, including a significant presence at the Sannidhanam (1,800), Pampa (800), Nilackal (700), Idukki (1,050), and Kottayam (650). The Travancore Devaswom Board Vigilance has installed 245 advanced surveillance cameras. A special security plan is in place for the sacred Thiruvabharanam procession from Pandalam. Efficient exit plans are also implemented to manage the post-Makaravilakku crowd dispersal. 300 KSRTC buses will assist with transportation from Pampa to Nilackal. The area has been divided into 13 zones, each with dedicated police personnel. Devotees have already begun arriving at the hillock.
