Sat Jan 11 00:05:10 UTC 2025: ## Fourth HMPV Case in Gujarat: Nine-Month-Old on Ventilator

**Ahmedabad, Gujarat –** A nine-month-old child in Ahmedabad has become the fourth confirmed case of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Gujarat, raising concerns about the spread of the respiratory virus. The infant, admitted to Viha Children’s Hospital on January 6th with respiratory symptoms, is currently on ventilator support at Childhood Hospital in South Bopal. This follows the recent confirmation of HMPV in an 80-year-old Ahmedabad resident and an eight-year-old child in Sabarkantha district. While a two-month-old infant in Ahmedabad has recovered from the virus, officials are closely monitoring the situation. Authorities stress that the infected children have no history of recent travel. The increase in HMPV cases comes amid global concern following a surge in cases in China. Union Health Minister JP Nadda has reassured the public that HMPV, while causing respiratory infections across all age groups, is not a new virus and that the government is closely monitoring the situation.
