Sat Jan 11 14:39:41 UTC 2025: ## Madurai Court Closes Petitions Seeking Inclusive Avaniapuram Jallikattu Committee
**Madurai, January 11, 2025** – The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has closed a batch of public interest litigation petitions demanding the inclusion of all communities in the Avaniapuram jallikattu advisory committee. The court accepted the State government’s assurance that the committee will, as in previous years, represent all Avaniapuram communities.
The petitions, filed by residents S.T. Kalyanasundaram, Mahalingam, and Muniyasamy, argued that excluding Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes members violated fundamental rights. The State’s assertion that both officials and representatives from all communities will be included in the organizing and advisory committees satisfied the court.
In a related matter, the court directed authorities to consider a petition requesting the participation of a specific bull, belonging to the Paraikaruppasamy temple, in the Palamedu jallikattu event. The petition was subsequently disposed of.
