Fri Jan 10 17:24:37 UTC 2025: ## Shankar’s ‘Game Changer’ Falls Short of Expectations: A Mixed Review
**Chennai, January 10, 2025** – Director Shankar’s much-anticipated Telugu-language debut, “Game Changer,” starring Ram Charan, has received a mixed response from critics. While lauded for its second half and Ram Charan’s performance, the film is criticized for a predictable plot and lack of Shankar’s signature innovation.
The film, a political thriller, pits an honest IAS officer (Ram Charan) against a corrupt politician (S.J. Suryah). While the premise is engaging, the reviewer notes that the screenplay is easily guessable, lacking the surprising twists and sharp dialogues usually associated with Shankar’s work. The first half is deemed “plastic,” with clichéd romantic scenes overshadowing the central conflict.
However, the film’s second half, featuring a 25-minute flashback sequence showcasing Ram Charan in a powerful supporting role, is praised for its impact. This section elevates the movie considerably. The performances are largely appreciated; Ram Charan shines in both his character roles, and S.J. Suryah delivers a strong villainous portrayal. Kiara Advani’s role, however, is considered minor.
Technically, the film boasts impressive visuals and a captivating background score by Thaman S, although the absence of Shankar’s usual music directors A.R. Rahman and Harris Jayaraj is felt. While the production design is lavish, the film’s predictable storyline and lack of Shankar’s trademark ingenuity ultimately fail to meet the high expectations set by the director’s previous works. The reviewer concludes that while an improvement over Shankar’s previous disappointing film, “Game Changer” ultimately falls short of a Shankar classic, remaining a standard Telugu masala film.
