**Moscow, January 10 (Interfax-RU)** – Evgenia Dobrovolskaya, a People’s Artist of Russia and beloved actress of stage and screen, has passed away at the age of 61, the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre (MKhAT) announced today.

Dobrovolskaya, a national treasure known for her extensive and acclaimed career, had been battling a serious illness for the past year. The theatre described her as having fought relentlessly, never losing hope, but ultimately succumbing to her illness.

A graduate of GITIS (Russian State Institute of Theatre Arts), Dobrovolskaya dedicated 33 years of her life to the MKhAT, where she performed dozens of leading roles. Her career also included work at the Moscow Theatre-Studio under Oleg Tabakov and the Sovremennik-2 theatre studio. She was a recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the Golden Aries, Nika, and Golden Eagle film awards, as well as accolades from international film festivals in Koszalin (Poland) and Geneva.
