Thu Jan 09 08:45:04 UTC 2025: ## Baloch Separatists Stage Attack in Pakistan, Claiming Responsibility

**QUETTA, Pakistan (January 9, 2025)** – Dozens of Baloch separatists launched a coordinated attack in Khuzdar, Balochistan province, Pakistan, on Wednesday, January 8th, seizing a government office, robbing a bank, and partially burning a police station. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), an outlawed group, claimed responsibility for the attack. While authorities reported no casualties, the incident highlights the escalating threat posed by Baloch separatists and the Pakistani Taliban in the region.

Police reported that security forces responded swiftly, forcing the separatists to flee. The attack comes amidst a recent surge in militant activity in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, attributed largely to the BLA and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The TTP, an ally of the Afghan Taliban, has seen increased strength since the latter’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021.

The oil- and mineral-rich Balochistan province, home to Pakistan’s Baloch minority, has long been a site of conflict. Baloch people allege discrimination and exploitation at the hands of the central government, fueling separatist movements. Analysts warn that these separatist groups are now posing a significant challenge to Pakistan’s national security, comparable to the threat from the TTP. A separate incident reported the abduction of 16 laborers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
