**MALAPPURAM, Kerala – January 10, 2025** – P.V. Anvar, the controversial Independent MLA from Nilambur, Kerala, has joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Anvar, who recently broke away from the Left Democratic Front (LDF), was welcomed into the party by TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata on Friday.
Banerjee stated that Anvar’s commitment to public service and advocacy for the rights of the Kerala people would strengthen the TMC’s mission. Sources indicate Anvar will meet TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on Saturday and has been given charge of the party’s Kerala operations.
The move surprised political observers, as Anvar had been in talks with the United Democratic Front (UDF) about a potential joining. While some UDF members expressed interest, others had reservations. The UDF planned to discuss Anvar’s application at a later date.
Anvar’s recent activities included leading a protest march following the death of a tribal youth in an elephant attack. This protest resulted in an attack on the Nilambur North Divisional Forest Office, leading to Anvar’s brief arrest and subsequent release on bail.
