**New Delhi** – A bitter war of words has erupted between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the lead-up to the Delhi Assembly elections. The AAP has accused the BJP of manipulating electoral rolls and leveled charges against BJP leader Parvesh Verma, sparking a fresh showdown between the two parties.
The Election Commission has launched an investigation into a complaint filed by AAP Chief Minister Atishi against Verma, who is contesting against AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. Verma denied any wrongdoing, stating he is open to investigation and focusing solely on defeating Kejriwal. He accused the AAP of inaction during its 11 years in power and criticized their handling of employment issues. He further clarified that his actions regarding job opportunities were not an attempt to garner votes.
The conflict escalated further after Kejriwal accused the BJP of bringing in people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to create fake votes, a claim that sparked protests and accusations of insulting Purvanchali voters (those from the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar). Kejriwal countered by emphasizing the AAP’s efforts to improve the lives of Purvanchali residents in Delhi and criticized the BJP’s record on development in slum areas predominantly populated by this community. He alleged that the BJP was deleting names of Purvanchali voters from electoral rolls under the guise of removing Rohingya and Bangladeshi citizens.
