Thu Jan 09 15:44:52 UTC 2025: ## Walayar Case: CBI Chargesheet Sparks Outrage, Divides Activists

**PALAKKAD, January 9, 2025** – The CBI chargesheet in the 2017 Walayar sisters’ death case has ignited a firestorm of controversy, dividing activists and raising accusations of government collusion. The chargesheet includes the parents as abettors in the alleged rape and suicide of the two girls, a move the Walayar Action Council vehemently rejects as an attempt to suppress their fight for justice.

Council chairman Vilayodi Venugopal and patron C.R. Neelakandan denounced the CBI’s findings as “strange” and a tactic to weaken their ongoing agitation. They vowed to continue their legal and public fight for justice. The victims’ mother echoed these sentiments, accusing the government, the CBI, and the accused of conspiring against the parents. She highlighted the government’s refusal to appoint their preferred prosecutor, Rajesh Menon.

However, a faction of the Action Council, led by chairman M.M. Kabeer and convener Raymant Antony, supports the CBI’s decision, claiming the parents played a role in the tragedy. This group, which previously marched to the CBI office demanding the mother’s incrimination, plans another march in Palakkad on Friday. The conflicting stances within the activist group underscore the deep divisions and intense emotions surrounding this highly sensitive case.
