**Puducherry, January 9, 2025** – A potential clash between supporters of Tamil organizations and the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) was averted by police in Puducherry on Thursday. The tension stemmed from recent comments made by NTK chief coordinator Seeman, allegedly disrespectful towards Dravidar Kazhagam founder E.V. Ramasamy (“Periyar”).
Members of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and other Periyarist organizations gathered to protest Seeman’s remarks as he arrived for a party function in Nellithope. Police intervention prevented the protesters from approaching the venue where NTK workers had also assembled, raising slogans in support of their leader. While both groups came close to confrontation, police successfully persuaded protesters to disperse, preventing any violence.
Seeman later addressed reporters, claiming he possessed evidence to support his statements about Periyar’s views. He criticized the silence of Periyarist groups regarding a recent sexual assault case at Anna University, questioning their selective outrage.
