JOHANNESBURG – The Betway SA20 league is proving to be a launchpad for young South African cricket talent, with several promising players poised to make their mark in the upcoming season. Several players who’ve excelled at the youth level and in domestic competitions are now set to compete in the SA20.

Among them is Tristan Luus, a fast bowler who impressed with two five-wicket hauls at the 2024 Cubs Week. Despite a late call-up to the 2024 U19 World Cup, Luus showcased his skill, taking seven wickets in five matches. Picked up by MI Cape Town as a rookie, he aims to break into the starting XI.

Another rising star, Jordan Hermann, boasts impressive first-class batting averages. After a stellar first season with the Titans, he moved to the Warriors, accumulating over 1500 runs in 18 matches. His impressive form, including a century against the England Lions, makes him a strong contender for a Proteas call-up, despite needing to improve his limited-overs strike rate.

While his start was slower, the former SA U19 captain, Parsons, has shown significant improvement, averaging 53.93 with three centuries in first-class cricket since the 2022/23 season. Picked up by the Durban Super Giants, he aims to build on his strong performance in the 2023/24 CSA T20 Challenge.

Other players to watch include the all-rounder, King, who is transitioning from the Warriors, and Lion-Cachet, a finisher for Tuks First XI who recently competed in the African Games. Both are ready to make their professional debut in the SA20.

Finally, Kwena Maphaka, a prodigious talent who already has a Proteas debut under his belt, is expected to be a key player for the Paarl Royals. His record-breaking 21 wickets at the 2024 U19 World Cup and subsequent performances in the IPL and CSA T20 Challenge solidify his status as a player to watch. The SA20 is set to provide a platform for these young players to showcase their abilities and potentially launch their international careers.
