Thu Jan 09 16:13:33 UTC 2025: ## Trump’s Supreme Court Plea to Block Sentencing Fails

**New York, NY** – President-elect Donald Trump’s last-ditch effort to delay his sentencing on a criminal conviction has been dealt a blow. The New York Court of Appeals rejected his appeal on Thursday, leaving the US Supreme Court as his only remaining recourse to avoid the scheduled sentencing this Friday.

Trump was found guilty in May on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to hush-money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. While the Manhattan District Attorney’s office has opposed the delay, Trump’s legal team argues that a Supreme Court ruling granting presidents broad immunity from criminal prosecution renders some evidence inadmissible. They have also requested the conviction be overturned.

The sentencing is scheduled just ten days before Trump’s inauguration on January 20th. While the trial judge, Justice Juan Merchan, indicated a likely unconditional discharge—meaning no prison time, fine, or probation—a guilty verdict would still remain on Trump’s record.

Trump’s lawyers have appealed directly to the Supreme Court, arguing that a sentencing would cause “grave injustice and harm to the institution of the Presidency.” However, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office countered that such intervention before final judgment and appellate review is unwarranted. The Supreme Court has yet to rule on Trump’s request.
