**Knoxville, TN** – Legendary sports broadcaster Mike Keith is coming home. Tennessee Athletics announced Thursday that Keith, a University of Tennessee alumnus and former Voice of the Tennessee Titans, will be the next Voice of the Vols, handling play-by-play for football and men’s basketball.
Keith, a member of five Halls of Fame, spent 27 seasons with the Titans, including the last 26 as their lead announcer. He is renowned for his enthusiastic call of “The Music City Miracle,” a pivotal playoff game moment that ESPN ranked among the top 10 radio calls in American sports history.
“When we discussed potential candidates, one name topped our list without question,” said Tennessee Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Danny White. “Mike is a true icon in the broadcasting industry, and we’re thrilled to welcome him back to Rocky Top.”
Keith expressed his excitement about returning to the University of Tennessee, citing the “top-notch” individuals he’s interacted with over the past five years and the engaging new programming initiatives planned for the Vol Network. His appointment assures a continuation of the network’s commitment to innovative broadcasting, according to Vice President and General Manager Steve Early.
Keith’s career with the Vol Network spans from 1987-98, where he held various roles, including Voice of the Baseball Vols and host of a daily sports talk show. He began his broadcasting journey at UTK, becoming the sports director of WUTK just three days after arriving on campus.
Beyond his broadcasting accolades, Keith’s connection to the university runs deep; his wife and daughter are UT graduates, and his grandfather played football for legendary coach General Neyland. Keith’s return marks a homecoming for both him and his family, promising a new era of exciting broadcasts for Tennessee Volunteers fans.
