Wed Jan 08 15:38:09 UTC 2025: ## Six Maoists Surrender in Bengaluru, Snubbing Planned Chikkamagaluru Ceremony

**Bengaluru, January 8, 2025** – Six Maoists surrendered to authorities in Bengaluru today, in a move that bypassed a previously scheduled ceremony in Chikkamagaluru. The change of venue, to include Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, left family members waiting at the Chikkamagaluru Inspection Bungalow.

The Maoists, who had departed from an undisclosed location near Sringeri, were initially expected to surrender before district officials and a district-level committee in Chikkamagaluru. This followed past surrender events in Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts. However, the location was changed at the last minute. Family members and representatives of the Shantigagi Nagarikara Vedike, including former Minister B.T. Lalitha Naik, were left stranded in Chikkamagaluru.

K.L. Ashok of the Shantigagi Nagarikara Vedike confirmed the surrender in Bengaluru, stating it would occur in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The government responded to opposition BJP criticism by noting that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also called for Maoist surrenders and that these individuals responded to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent appeal.
